Acuerdo Municipal: uso del agua en Zarcero

La Municipalidad de Zarcero sienta un precedente y hace suyo el acatamiento de las disposiciones para el manejo del agua de consumo humano, la agricultura y la industria, esto según la ley y las normativas vigentes. Se busca garantizar el agua para las poblaciones como prioridad, y quien quiera sacar provecho propio de este preciado recurso en tierras zarcereñas, tendrá que demostrar con todos los estudios de rigor la verdadera factibilidad técnica y ambiental del proyecto.

Recover and Preserve

It all started in 1996, when a group of people from the Alfaro Ruiz canton formed a movement to raise awareness among fellow citizens on the importance of protecting the aquifers of the highest parts of river Tapezco’s basin. This is an area that needed to be recovered and preserved, given that its streaming feeds various systems of drinking water, irrigation and drainage.

Water, more than a tube

Nestled In the mountains of northern Costa Rica, there is a beautiful place, the watershed of La Balsa River. Its waters flow through the mountains, from Nicaragua to the Caribbean Sea.

The area was covered in cloud forests which produced an abundance of water, and it was home to a unique biological diversity. But now the waters are scarce, and they are being contaminated, and the wildlife takes shelter in small fragmented forests.

The communities have taken action. Their challenge: to restore their local watersheds, bring back the vitality of their rivers, and witness the wildlife return…
